When Bernice GOLBERG and I decided to send a letter to the local papers (see above and post below), upon hearing the news of Malcolm Wicks' passing, without prompting, we both had recalled the same abiding memory amongst the seemingly numerous encounters with Malcolm Wicks:

In the run up to the 2005 general election, we made life size cut-outs of Malcolm and Tony Blair and took them to every stall we did. Then on one occasion, whilst we were leafleting alongside our eye-catching imagery, we noticed Malcolm was also campaigning in Croydon Town Centre. He definitely knew about our stall. At a previous week his daughter spotted it! Anyway, after biding his time, he eventually strode purposefully towards his "mirror image" and proceeded to straighten its tie, then brush some flecks off the shoulders, and in his own deadpan humour style said, "Well you could have given him a better suit." We all laughed!
